Last month I blogged about a couple of incidents of firings. By definition, the boss generally gets the last laugh in a firing.
Today my buddy at work was telling me about a particularly unique firing. One that would not be historically unique, but it was the first time I’d heard of it happening.
As we sat around eating our sandwiches I listened to the story.
Apparently my buddy was drinking after work with his construction crew co-workers. They were having a pretty good time. Then the office superintendent showed up, no-one really knew how he got invited, but he joined in the drinking. After a while my buddy got increasingly irritated with the boss and asked him to come outside with him. According to him, and verified by the other guys at lunch break today, he put his arm around the boss and told him he liked him, adding, “that’s why I’m only going to hit you once.” And he floored him.
Thinking about it, this was more of a case of resigning from work than being fired.
I could tell from the other guys at work that this was a story they enjoyed regularly revisiting.
