Today is the 45th anniversary of my brother Mike Hammer's assassination in El Salvador. My brother worked for the American Institute for Free Labor Development which executed on the foreign operations of the AFL-CIO with funding from the US government via US AID.
I'm posting this article from "Human Events" to expose the lies published by the Right wing about his assassination - in the context today of the lies being told by the Right wing led by Donald Trump about the military assault on Venezuela.
"Human Events" blamed the "Far Left" for precipitating his murder by exposing my brother's affiliation with the Central Intelligence Agency. But it's well documented that it wasn't the Left that killed my brother. His murder, carried out at the Sheraton Hotel in San Salvador on January 3, 1981, was directed by businessmen and large land owners - who were associated with the Far Right organization ARENA which directed death squads activity against the peasant and working class movements in that country.
The lies by "Human Events" misinformed the people in the US, intentionally pitting them against the Left.
The current invasion will resurface all these lies, directed against Venezuelan president Maduro, and his country's connections with Cuba, which is one of the indirect targets of the current assault. I urge you to question EVERYTHING that the reactionaries currently in control of the US government, sadly enabled by the liberal media, are telling you. Just as they covered up the truth about my brother's killing, they will engage in cover ups about the real Venezuela and the US harassment of that country over many decades. Think OIL. Think US Imperialism and it's insatiable drive to control our entire hemisphere.
I lost my only sibling when my brother Mike was killed in a hail of machine gun fire while holding a meeting with two other men in the hotel's cafeteria. Our relationship was complicated, but I will forever miss him. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_Events
