We have explained on this blog many times in the past that what is missing in every report about the migration of people from Mexico and Central America in to the Unites States is the historic role of US capitalism in the region. US capitalism considers Central America as its own back yard much similar to the way British colonial power saw Africa.
The never ending crisis that the people in this region face is a direct result of imperialist intervention from their more powerful northern neighbor. These countries, as well as other smaller neighbors of the USA will never be allowed to develop "healthy" capitalist economies without the approval of Washington. Violence, coups, assassinations, and the murder and kidnapping of union leaders through the infiltration of the CIA in to the US trade union movement (AFL-CIO) is the legacy of the US in this region.
The people that have gathered at the US border with Mexico are not a "caravan". They are not "migrants". They are economic refugees that are fleeing the results of US foreign policy in Central America that has made poverty a permanent fixture.
The vile US predator in Chief, has portrayed these refugees as criminals, murderers and even Muslim terrorists. The image conveyed is one of a rag tag army of worthless people.
What we see in the picture above is what always happens with human beings in crisis, we help each other, we begin to self organize in the best way we can with whatever resources at our disposal. The refugees would obviously welcome any help they can get in this situation and have received some from individuals that have gone there. But the picture above is an example of human solidarity and self preservation under extreme conditions.
