by Richard Mellor Afscme Local 444, retired After that young black guy shot the cop in Memphis and even before I knew he was a a black man I wondered if it was a revenge killing or if it was a black man maybe he feared for his life. The capitalists mass media never includes the objective situation in these cases. But it would be completely natural for a black guy to feel threatened when confronted by the police give the situation in the US and the rash of police killings. To be honest, it wouldn't surprise me at all if there has been the same amount of police shootings of young black men for a while, it is the abundance of cameras that has brought it to light.
How many young black guys did Mark Fuhrman the LA cope in the OJ case take behind a closed liquor store or gas station in LA and kick the crap out of them? He could have gotten away with murder and maybe he has, we will likely never know. But we do know he is a racist individual with a special disdain for African Americans and he had almost unrestrained power over life and death in the streets of LA. This thug has a radio talk show now doesn't he much like that war criminal Oliver North. And look at that recent image of the white racist who is out on that mountain in SC rallying in support of the racist flag of the South. He is armed, he even puts his hand on his gun in the presence of an unarmed anti flag protestor and a cop who is standing there politely gesturing him to calm down. Some chance for a black guy doing that.
The supporters of open carry laws are overwhelmingly the future stormtroopers of fascism and Nazism. They are, in the last resort, the defenders of capital when bourgeois democratic rule fails to protect the system from the rising anger of workers when we are forced through necessity to confront the Lords of Wall Street and their economic and political system. The reason the cop in this video approached the guy holding the camera and told him to move away was not because he feared for his life, he feared for their words. He didn't want any independent record of what was said. A good clip and a strong young man, the two of them . I should add that when I left England, we didn't have to show any ID to a cop. There were attempts to introduce an ID system but there was a lot of opposition including from older people who recalled the Nazi era. You simply told them your name.
If they had a reason to arrest you of course they could do so but you didn't have to prove who you were through a state issued ID.
