ILWU Local 10 in San Francisco is one of the few Unions that has two "stop work" days written in to its contract. It is a reflection of the ILWU's history of struggle that the bosses conceded to such a clause. The ILWU has often used this clause to stop work in support of others such as Mumia Abu Jamal. On April 4th the ILWU shut down the West Coast ports in support of the "We are One" day in support of the public sector workers in Wisconsin. This was not done as part of the contractual agreement. Longshoremen refused to unload ships and in response, the shipping bosses are suing that Union. There is a rally at the Pacific Maritime Association offices in support of Local 10 and we should all try to be there. Share this information with your co-workers.
