Dentists. Profit. Practicing on the poor.

For a health care system free at the point of use. This to be funded by switching resources from military spending, ending the tax cuts for the rich, taking the profit motive out of health care and replacing capitalism with a democratic socialist system which would produce more and see that this was equitably distributed.

I was on the phone the other night. And is usual for me I was chewing on a toothpick. I got mad about a situation my friend and I were discussing, chewed too hard on the pick and broke off a tooth. Goddamn. It makes me feel how old I am when pieces begin to fall off. A tooth today what else tomorrow? But this is not about that. This is about my experience since.

I have no health insurance. So what was I going to do? I went to the college of dentistry. This is where they train young people to become dentists. They have been working on me since. I have to pay of course but the interesting thing is the cost in comparison with the private profit dominated dentist world. If I was getting the work done in the for profit dentistry world I would be paying five to ten times what I am paying now. This profit capitalist system is a racket.

All health care including dentistry should be free at the point of use. This can easily be financed by switching resources from military spending, ending tax cuts for the rich and by taking the profit out of the health care system. And of course by ending capitalism and replacing it with a democratic socialist system which would generate much more wealth and would see that this was properly distributed.

The other thing that struck me about my recent experience. The young student who is working on me and his director could not be better and they are very competent. However it is still a school. So what we have is that dentists, like all the medical professionals practice on the poor and in America practice on those who have no insurance. The class divide is everywhere. Capitalism is not a pleasant sight.

Before I left the other day the student dentist gave me an armful of brushes, and floss and tooth cleaning materials of one kind or another. This is donated to them by the big companies who make dental equipment. These profit predators are trying to get their foot in the door with the new generations of dentists and with the patients.

Most people are too afraid to go to the college of dentistry. They pay huge amounts of money to the private profit based dental system. As I say all health care including dentistry should be free at the point of use and funded by shifting resources from military spending, ending tax cuts for the rich, taking profit out of health care system and building a democratic socialist society where more would be produced and all that would be produced would be equitably distributed.
