Richard Mellor
I thought this was very interesting. I have never heard of David Badiell until this week and up until watching this never heard of the English football player Jason Lee and the racist bullying of him by Badiell.
I thought Ash Sarkar’s comments were right on the button and she presented her case calmly and in a way that anyone with an ounce of decency and common sense would understand.
I was sort of glued to the screen as I cannot imagine anyone
getting away with what Badiell did to Jason Lee here in the US and still keep
his job and write a book about the very subject that he violated; unless you’re
the president of the US of course.
I am not of the mind that people should lose careers and be demonized for things
they said or did 20 years ago as people change but the points Sarkar makes
about Badiell not losing his career and actually writing a book on the subject
and hosting a documentary on racism are right on. A clip is included of four
white people ridiculing Lee for not taking it all as a joke. But from what I
learn here, it encouraged racist chants among the fans and it appears that it
was an ongoing assault on Lee, his color, his hair, his person. It is good for
US workers to watch this too and in particular, Ash Sarkar’s excellent comments
as she has faced racism, misogyny and religious bigotry as a brown skinned
Muslim woman.
None of the Robin Di Angelo guilt ridden garbage here.
