As I watched Anita Hill giver her 1991 testimony to the Senate Committee hearings on the nomination of Clarence Thomas to the US Supreme Court, I was profoundly moved by it. What courage and dignity she showed in that ordeal.

Now we have a similar situation with reports coming out about another sexual predator Brett Kavanaugh who has been nominated by the king of sexual predator’s Donald Trump, to replace Anthony Kennedy on the so-called Supreme Court.

It is a tremendous honor among bourgeois circles to make it on to the Supreme Court. Budding young legal scholars attending capitalist think tanks like Yale, Harvard, Stanford and so forth, dream of making it and will do just about anything to get there. The links between these families and influential people begin at an early age and develop further in their universities. The struggle in the ranks of the upper middle classes to climb even higher is ferocious and begins at a very early age.

They hang out, party, trade favors, and, in such patriarchal circles, women have to do their share of trading and have to learn how to keep their mouths shut if they want to make it in their world. Socialists have to support the right of bourgeois women not face discrimination on the basis of gender.

In his writing over the past few years, Judge has suggested that revealing clothes can lead to rape, praised men who know how to be “the boss” with their wife, and celebrated the beauty of “uncontrollable male passion.”

Like all of them, these connections are maintained throughout life as Wikipedia points out”,   More than half of Kavanaugh's law clerks have been women (25 of 48) and more than a quarter have been people of color. A number of Kavanaugh's law clerks are the children of other judges and high profile legal figures, including Clayton Kozinski (son of former federal Judge Alex Kozinski), Porter Wilkinson (daughter of Judge J. Harvie Wilkinson III), Philip Alito (son of Justice Samuel Alito), Sophia Chua-Rubenfeld (daughter of Yale Law Professor Amy Chua), and Emily Chertoff (daughter of former DHS Secretary Michael Chertoff).

Hostility to workers and organized labor
The circle and class that Kavanaugh is from is naturally hostile to all people they consider weaker than themselves, not as successful as themselves. To be kind, show solidarity, have empathy with those less fortunate is weakness in their world. They see their privilege as a consequence of their superior being. They are naturally anti-worker and along with that anti-union.

When workers at a meatpacking plant in Brooklyn decided they wanted a union and in fact unionized, the company, a renowned abuser of workers named Agri Processor, refused to bargain, then they said the workers were undocumented and couldn’t be covered by collective bargaining laws.  In other words after profiting from their tenuous position they snitched on them. A District Court disagreed with the company as did the NLRB. The only judge that agreed with the bosses was Kavanaugh. He also opposed the fines OSHA hit SeaWorld with after the death of one of the trainers Dawn Brancheau ,opposing OSHA having any rights to regulate the industry. The movie Blackfish describes the terrible conditions that Orca’s were forced to endure and the exploitation of the workers at Sea World who were told to lie and pretend they were experts on these creatures. The company even attempted to blame the victim suggesting Brancheu’s ponytail or perfume triggered the attack.

Kavanaugh has also supported rulings that have been beneficial to Trump, “Kavanaugh joined two other Republican-appointed judges in a unanimous 2012 ruling in favor of the Trump Organization, after company executives asked the NLRB to throw out the results of a union election at Trump Plaza, arguing that support from politicians had introduced bias”   And, “As a July Bloomberg article points out, in 2015 Kavanaugh sided with the management of Sheldon Adelson’s Venetian Casino Resort in a similar case, authoring a majority opinion upholding the casino’s First Amendment right to summon police to issue citations to union protesters trespassing on company property.”

“Judge Kavanaugh protects American businesses from illegal job-killing regulation,” the White House wrote in an email delivered just after 9 p.m. “Kavanaugh helped kill President Obama’s most destructive new environmental rules” and has “led the effort to rein in unaccountable independent agencies,” the White House wrote. Politico.com

Misogynists and racists like Trump and other members of the good old boys clubs are not having an easy time of it. I am watching Christine Blasey Ford’s testimony at the moment, being questioned by some of the most powerful old men in the world, all of them defenders of a system that exploits working people on a daily basis. While the Republican Party appears to be ahead in its degeneration and decay, the Democrats among them cannot be trusted to defend the rights of women or the working class. The best protection against sexual harassment on the job is to collectivize, to unionize. Some of the most abused women in this regard are those that work in the hotel industry.
