Obama praises the youth of Iran, Hilary loves the uprisings. Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, they're friends

Two peas in a pod; class interests unite them
The most positive thing about periods like the present when class polarization is more acute is that it's so much more difficult for the mouthpieces of capitalism to obscure objective reality.  Not only is there the whole Wikileaks affair but we have all seen the crisis that US imperialism finds itself in trying to respond to the class warfare that has broken in to the open in a way that doesn't damage it's public face about being the champion of democracy, freedom and all that nonsense.

US capitalism's concern, is not so much the vast majority of the workers in the former colonial world because most of them are much clearer as to the nature of the beast.  It is the American working class that US capitalism has to contain and in this regard it has a very trusted ally in the heads of organized Labor.

As we have seen, the official mouthpieces of US capitalism have not fared too well. The situation with Mubarak for instance and the routing of the Tunisian regime, both trusted stooges.  Everything they say worsens the situation.  The objective situation just doesn't leave them a lot of room for manoeuvre.

Now Obama reaches out to the Iranian youth for the Iranian New Year.  He supports them, as the future of their country is in their hands. "The future of Iran belongs to the young people," he says, "..the youth who will determine their own destiny,"

"Your talent, your hopes and your choices will shape the future of Iran, and help light the world. And though times may seem dark, I want you to know that I am with you," Obama adds.

Well that's very nice.  We would agree with him that the future belongs to the youth as those that are already dead or too old like myself will not likely be around to enjoy it. The youth of Iran had better watch out though if the president of the US telling them he is with them.

We must not forget that here are literally thousands of Iranian youth whose futures were denied them by the former Shah, the murderous dictator installed by US capitalism after it orchestrated the coup that overthrew the secular democratic government of Mohammed Mossadegh in 1953. Mossadegh's crime was to want control of their own resource-----oil.  The CIA agent in charge of that dirty little business was Kermit Roosevelt, the former US president's grandson.  Then there are the hundreds of thousands of Iranian and Iraqi youth that perished in the Iran/Iraq war.  This was a war that US capitalism encouraged as a means of strengthening their puppet regime led by Sadaam Hussein and weakening Iran.

This is unknown to much of the US population given that we have the most censored news media in the advanced capitalist countries.  It's a bit different today given the technological advances in media and access to information.  As the hypocrite Obama applauds Iranian youth, Bahraini youth are being shot by the thug Saleh in nearby Yemen.  Yemen has been armed to the teeth by the US under the guise of fighting terrorism.  If you think for that for a minute, you might wonder how you can have a war against a tactic, terrorism is a tactic.  Obviously, you can't, and that is the purpose of the so-called War Against Terror, it never ends, a perfect never ending arms industry and foothold in this region of the world where much loot can be had.

But Obama is not so complimentary to the Bahranian youth who are threatening to topple his friend, or more accurately, the stooge of US capitalism that he represents. Yemen has been a good ally, even claiming responsibility for missile assassinations of, guess who, terrorists, that were actually US operations.  The dislike of imperialism's plunder of their natural resources through the support of local dictators is not popular with the masses in the region and military operations make that worse.

Obama is not the only one being exposed as a hypocrite and liar when it comes to the US role in the region.  Hilary Clinton is sounding like Thomas Paine these days, "We commend the demonstration of peaceful expressions of human rights and dignity we have seen in much of the region." she says.

The other thing to think about is the youth here in the USBoth Obama and Clinton are implementing policies at home that will have devastating effects on youth.  They are willingly dumping the costs of the crisis of capitalism on to the shoulders of the working class and while claiming that the future of Iran lies in the hands of youth they are ensuring that the youth in the US will have no future, or one of poverty and insecurity.  The security they can find will be in the prisons where they are a large part of the 2 million people in jail here.  They can then get three squares a day and some medical care.

2011 has been a great year so far. It is sad that people have lost their lives, but they have lost them in the service of humanity and in the struggle to be free and control our own destiny.  This is history and things will not be the same.

Capitalism cannot solve the crises in society.  It cannot feed people, it cannot live in harmony with nature, it is incapable of moving society forward.  Wars, disease, racism, the selling of women and young girls, this is normal life under capitalism; an integral part of it. The uprisings in the Middle east and North Africa are a positive development, things will never be the same, but the attacks on Libya are an attempt to regain a foothold in a new regime with some minor changes; the looting will continue.  And as we pointed out in an previous blog, the 5 permanent members of the UN Security Council, US, Russia, France, United Kingdom and China, together with Germany and Italy account for around 85% of the arms sold between 2002 and 2009. (Global Issues). The US and the UK, the former dominant colonial power and the present but waning dominant imperial one supply over 50% of the world's arms. Some chance for world peace with this crowd, it would not be profitable for them.

The working class can govern. We can collectively determine what we produce, how we produce it and how we construct the infrastructure of society in harmony with nature. This is not Utopia; it is not only real, it is necessary if we are to survive as a species.
