Wikileaks releases cables showing US pressuring governments to buy GM crops: Endangering the lives of Americans yet again

Well isn’t it just a terrible thing that Wikileaks has released cables that show that the US embassy in Paris informed Washington that the US should start a “military-style trade war” against any European country that opposed genetically modified crops. I can see why US politicians would call for Assange’s assassination and urge that Wikileaks be classified as a “terrorist” organization for releasing this dangerous information to the world. Surely, Monsanto, General Mills, Dupont and all those nice people in the food production industry need help from the government too. And what if a war had started over it; our government wouldn't have been able to shield us from the truth and say that Muslim terrorists started it.

The communication from the US embassy in Paris to Washington was kept from the ears of American citizens for our own safety.  It reads:

"Country team Paris recommends that we calibrate a target retaliation list that causes some pain across the EU since this is a collective responsibility, but that also focuses in part on the worst culprits.
"The list should be measured rather than vicious and must be sustainable over the long term, since we should not expect an early victory. Moving to retaliation will make clear that the current path has real costs to EU interests and could help strengthen European pro-biotech voices,"

The cable was from Craig Stapleton, who co-owned the St Louis-based Texas Rangers baseball team in the 1990s and I assume is an official at the US embassy. Now they’ll say there is a conflict of interest, but what else could be done when those damn Europeans won’t buy Monsanto’s GE crops?

What does the US taxpayer need to know this stuff for? It is a very health-damaging piece of information and could place the lives of US citizens in extreme danger. We have so many more important things that we need to know about. I mean, if it wasn’t for our wonderful news media I wouldn’t have known that President Obama called Michael Vick, the Philly quarterback to congratulate him on his redemption. And the headline last Saturday, how inspiring was that, the America’s Cup is coming to SF. Those pesky foreigners should not object to some irradiated food anyway, we eat it and look how healthy we are.

There now, that’s more like it. We don't need to be reminded of how phony their diplomacy is.  If this Wikileaks has its way we’ll be bothered by all sorts of nasty truths about our government and it’ll just make us miserable. The other thing is that the Catholic Church is getting dragged in to this and that poor industry needs no more unpleasantness. The Catholic bishops in developing countries have “vehemently opposed” the GM crops but some successful lobbying, “sustained lobbying of senior Holy See advisers” leaked cables say, is being waged to get the pope of Rome to come out in favor. "Opportunities exist to press the issue with the Vatican, and in turn to influence a wide segment of the population in Europe and the developing world," says one of the leaked cables.

Oh, this is just too much. The Vatican is now being embarrassed. The pope should excommunicate that guy Julian Assange whether he’s catholic or not and that Bradley Manning too if he is the whistleblower; he’s gay as well, that’s got something to do with it I’ll bet. Those gay guys just hate America. I saw Becket, it’s easy, you just say a lot of Latin words and drop some sticks on the ground. Already, one of the most important of the unelected old men that run the Vatican business has withdrawn his support for the US position. See what happens when you tell the people what’s going on, they have to act right; we cannot have that in a free society; we simply cannot.

Just a reminder that you can check out Wikileaks central at the link to the right or here.
