Leaked documents detailing Israel/Palestinian peace talks will strengthen Hamas.

No way out for Palestinians with these guys
The thousands of leaked documents detailing talks between the US, Israel and the Palestinian Authority cannot help but strengthen Hamas, and indeed, strengthen Islamic movements in the area. Glancing through them this morning, the concessions the negotiators from the PA were willing to make are stunning.

They offered to accept all the Jewish settlements in East Jerusalem except one, referring to it as giving the Jews the "the biggest Yerushalayim in Jewish history"; using the Hebrew word; these settlements are illegal according to international law. They also backed off on the right of return for Palestinians driven from their homes by the Zionist regime.

The leaked papers also reveal an “intimate” level of cooperation between the PA and the Israelis according to the media suggesting that the Israeli’s gave the PA prior notice of their intentions to invade Gaza. 1300 Palestinians were killed in that slaughter during which the Israeli’s were accused of using white phosphorous. Anger at the PA leaders not only in Gaza but also in the West Bank will boil over on hearing that they knew about the invasion beforehand. The role of the British government’s cooperation with the Israelis in efforts to crush Hamas is also revealed in documents.

These developments will certainly give Hamas a boost as the negotiators for the Palestinian people appear wiling in the few I have read so far, to give up all that is dear to the Palestinian masses. It is not only the fact that they offered massive concessions but that they ingratiated themselves horribly in the process. Ariel Sharon was referred to as a “friend” by Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat. Sharon is loathed by Palestinians for his role in the massacre of Palestinians in the Sabra and Shatila refugee camps in Lebanaon in 1982.

According to reports in the press, the Palestinians humiliate themselves while the Israeli’s and the US negotiators are “dismissive”. The leaks will deprive Israel of its claim that it is the Palestinians that are intransigent and don’t want piece, something few people believe anyway. The hopes and aspirations of the Palestinian people are tragically are betrayed by all sides.  Israel has the full backing of the US and the PA is totally corrupt.  These documents will strengthen Hamas' claim that negotiations with the Zionists is pointless.  On the other hand, there is no way militarily that the Palestinians can defeat the US and its proxy Israel.  As the previous post explained, capitalism is incapable of solving the issue.

What with the leaks presented to Wikileaks by the Swiss banker and now these, revelations of private discussions on the Middle east between the Palestinians, Israeli’s and US, Wikileaks has started a trend that will likely continue, especially as support for the whistle blowing site grows; more people might start coming out of the woodwork.

Al Jazeera received the leaked documents and passed them on to the British Guardian. Today’s only the first batch, there’s more to come.
