The consequences of the Wikileaks affair are grossly underestimated by some.

I am somewhat perplexed by some people, including some on the  left who seem to be unable to grasp the significance of the Wikileaks cables. One fellow, a socialist, accused me of being alarmist. Others have said that the information is nothing new, we all know these things, so what? Naturally all those who believe themselves to be the self-appointed teachers and leaders of the uneducated masses already know these things, that’s why they’re the leaders, or the leaders to be.

Less than 1000 of the 250,000 cables have been released but look at the commotion it’s caused. US politicians have called for anyone leaking information to be executed. Political figures have called for Assange to be assassinated or imprisoned for thousands of years. He has been accused of rape, pedophilia and other such crimes. Any such accusations, if valid, should be checked out but we cannot separate such things from the circumstances in which they arise.

This is the problem with the Wikileaks releases; it has pulled the mask of bourgeois diplomacy and increased tensions among the capitalist class. It has strengthened the working class as any blow to global capitalism does, whether a victorious strike, a boycott, tenants defeating a slumlord. or other such struggles. This is giving imperialism a bloody nose and who knows what’s next. You can bet that the ruling classes of the world are not sleeping so good wondering if their name will pop up in the morrow.

Accusations of child sex are not an accident; criminals of that nature are not safe in prisons. The US capitalist class wants Assange dead, there’s no doubt about that. The cable that apparently reveals that employees of the US corporation, DynCorp, which was under a U.S. government contract to train Afghan police, being involved in the procurement of young boys for sex and that there were attempts to cover it up does not bode well for a government portraying itself as the shining light in a dull world.

The fallout is everywhere. Today, an international arrest warrant was issued for Ivo Sanader, the former prime minister of Croatia due to cables that were released showing that corruption charges have been filed against him. Sanader skipped town, or should I say, Country, yesterday.

The whole affair gives us a chance for a laugh too. We all know that the Nobel Peace prize is a fraud, even Henry Kissinger won it, a war criminal if there ever was one. Now I read today that the Chinese bureaucracy through the Beijing Daily, has suggested Julian Assange for the Nobel Peace prize and the Russians have followed suit, making this “mischievous suggestion” says the British Guardian. We know its a joke because the Chinese government would have executed him already. It's a little stab at the western states in response to the Chinese dissident being nominated. Terrorists, war criminals and other anti-democratic nasties  are never from the US or Britain---funny isn’t it?

I was also reading today that a British man accused of hiring someone to kill his wife was released on 250 thousand pounds bail. So they do release people on bail then?

There are all sorts of other rumors surrounding Assange also, like he made a deal with the Israeli's  which is why little, if anything has come out regarding that would embarrass Israel.  If this is true, we would be critical of it.  But there is a time to be critical and a time not.  Assange is under assault from the governments of the world and is America's most wanted.

There have been demonstrations in cities and communities throughout Australia in defense of Assange; that should be going on everywhere.
