Delano tenants are fed up with the games that their landlord plays with them. One being the "Divide and conquer" method.
Today the tenants were handed 24 hour notices saying that tenants will get fumigations on Tuesday 7/28/09. All tenants are getting roach treatment and only a few will get treatment for bedbugs. The tenants that are getting the bedbug fumigation are irritated with the landlord because it causes divsions among other tenants, especially those who arent organizing. It causes tenants who are potentially looking to organize with us, to feel as though no one cares for their case..........the name is "Divide and Conquer".
I spoke to the landlord over the phone and she seemed a bit friendlier than what the tenants have recalled. It must be that the Health department (under the pressure from Delano tenants) are suing the landlord for not keeping the building in good living conditions.
She an I spoke for a few minutes but nevertheless, tenants and Campaign for Renters Rights got what we demanded, for all the units to get both roach and bedbug treatment. It seems as though it was less fighting because all in all, we are organizing and ontop of that the Health Department is going to sue them.
This shows how important it is for the tenants to fight for their demands.
