We had a similar situation to this story below in the community next to where I live. An older board member of a local sanitary district made a number of vile racist remarks and refused to step down even though he was asked to by his fellow board members. He said a number of times that it was the way he was brought up and stuff like that.

I attended a board meeting along with a couple of others and we added our voices calling on him to step down.  Speaking for the other board members, the chairperson said that they had asked him but he won't and that there was no mechanism for removing an elected member of a board. All they could do was appeal to him we were told.

When I spoke I opposed this excuse. They could act, They could get up and walk out of a session whenever he is there. They can refuse to conduct business. Then they could organize a meeting in the community calling on the members of that community to pack the board as well and to picket and take other actions to force him off. His home could be picketed and a march could be organized in his neighborhood and his neighbors homes leafleted. If he had any business interests in the community they could be picketed.  I raised the unions and that these organizations should take the issue up. The union hierarchy as we know care only about dues money and stay mum whenever controversial issues come up. Their silence in the wake of the attacks on their own members and the murder of black men by the police is nothing less than criminal. But members have to be active in challenging the pro-capitalist policies of their leaders and replacing them and their policies with a real fighting alternative that can confront the 1%.  And you can't do that without taking up communty and social issues like these.

This scumbag below, like all racists, will be anti-worker in general and will have nothing but contempt for the poor no matter what color. The suggestions I raise here and any other direct action tactics, like picketing his children's (or in this case grandchidren's)  school and leafleting his place of worship will also make him think long and hard about what he said.  In the case here the guy did resign after we went to the board.

Mayor in Washington makes disgusting racist remarks about the Obamas, refuses to resign

Racist? Nah, just good joking!

The mayor of Airway Heights, Washington—a suburb of Spokane—is refusing calls to resign despite immediate backlash regarding comments he made on Facebook:

The comment in full that was found on Patrick Rushing's Facebook page read:  "Gorilla face Michelle, can't disagree with that.  The woman is not attractive except to monkey man Barack.  Check out them ears. LOL."   I showed Rushing the statement, and he confirmed he had posted it, so I asked him why he would write something like that.
"It's just playful back and forth banter that my friends and I do," said Rushing.

The Airway Heights City Council was unanimous in their desire to see him resign, but he's not budging:

"I will not step down. But I will do everything I can to turn the tide around."
