North Korea's Kim Jong Il dead. Was he really this popular?

It's hard to imagine that this is actually happening but people more familiar with mass behavior than me might be able to explain it.  They might be so overwhelmed with joy that he's gone. You can see why the capitalist class loves to portray a society like this as socialism or communism.  All dressed in black, all walking in the right direction, crying for an individual---the cult of the personality.  Marx would rollover in his grave.  He once made it perfectly clear in order to separate himself from all the nuts that called themselves Marxists that he indeed was "not a Marxist".
