The International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) are on strike in the North West against a union busting company. But not just on strike they are invading the companies facilities and have held hostages. These workers are showing they have had enough of picketing outside plants as opposed to stopping production and ending the business as usual policies of the corporations and union and political leaders while they attack workers. This action of these workers is a potentially great step forward.
Of course the bosses are already moving. Cops and the state are being prepared. The Wall Street Journal the paper of criminal hacker Murdock is leading the propaganda war against the workers. It says this strike might spread. It says This one is worth watching. And it says that Obama whom it is always attacking must act against the strike.
Full support must be given to these workers. Solidarity committees must be set up in all unions and workplaces and money raised and delegates and supporters sent to the strike action. Let us do what the bosses fear - spread the strike. Let this be a victory and halt the bosses offensive in its tracks and begin the turn around to where working people can go on our own offensive in our own interests.
The left and activists movement should mobilize its resources. Giving full uncritical support to the strikes and organizing to send as many resources as it has to participate in the struggle. While taking the lead from the strikes and supporting them if the left and activist movement feel that the struggle could be made more effective by raising this or that demand or this or that tactic then let them do so but not in a sectarian or ultra left manner. The workers are in the lead here and they must be given full support while at the same time the lessons of the past can be raised and discussed so that mistakes are not repeated.
Full support for the Longshore workers in the Northwest. make this the big one. Halt and throw back the bosses offensive. Open up an offensive of our own. take on the corporations and their politicians. become part of the world wide movement in the workplaces and streets against injustice and capitalism.
Sean.
