Decision time in Greece

Consider the factors lining up in Greece.

The Pasok government is betraying the interests of its political base. The left opposition is too weak to take its place.

The working class unable to take power because of the lack of political leadership.

The bourgeois New Democracy is unwilling to support the Pasok government and is thereby preventing the EU from paying the 12 bn € loan. So a political, financial and economic paralysis has begun.

The bourgeoisie can no longer rule as before. The working class cannot tolerate any more attacks. Living standards have fallen and continue to fall. The Greek economy is spiralling downwards into an ever deep recession. This is a potentially revolutionary situation but one which cannot last much longer.

In this crisis, what would more logical than for a military coup to take place? A new junta could impose martial law, preventing demonstrations and arresting all left leaders, beheading the working class movement. It could seal the borders and close the banks, introduce a new national currency within 2 - 3 weeks and thereby devalue the 300 bn € national debt of Greece. An Argentinian solution.

If this is a real possibility, the Greek working class has only a few weeks left to get organised before the government fails to pay public salaries and pensions after 12th July.
