Oakland teachers protest and sit in at Wells Fargo bank

About 200 teachers and their supporters protested outside the Wells Fargo bank at 12th and Broadway in Oakland yesterday.  I would have had something up sooner but Google had the blogs down.  The teachers are members of the Oakland Education Association and 7 of them staged a sit in at the bank and were eventually arrested.  They have all been released.

Both political parties, Democrats and Republicans, are waging a vicious assault on all workers as well as public services which are already fairly skimpy here in the US compared to other advanced capitalist economies.

What Jerry Brown, California’s Democratic governor is proposing:

Medical cut by $1.7 billion.
CalWorks cut by $1.5 billion.
Higher Ed must suffer: UC cut $500 million.
CSU cut $500 million. Community colleges cut $400 million.

Brown and the Democrats, as well as the heads of organized Labor in California are also proposing increased taxation of workers and the middle class in order to fill a $15 billion deficit hole. (See earlier blogs)
