Syrian protesters shot by security forces

From Free Syria
At least two protesters have been shot dead by security forces in Syria as the uprisings continue to flare up throughout the Middle East.  These deaths follow on the heels of the shooting by snipers of 31 protesters in Yemen.  The Syrian dictatorship is led by the secular Baath Party, similar to that in Iraq.  The Baathists tolerate no dissent.  The US cleared them all out when it invaded Iraq which left a disastrous vacuum politically.  The hypocrisy is clear though for all to see though.

US capitalism supported the Iraqi Baathists and armed them.  Then it fell out with Hussein and invaded the country talking about freedom and democracy and the like.  US imperialism attacks the Syrian regime for the lack of dissent yet in Bahrain it props up a feudal monarchy that, guess what, allows no dissent.  Especially when protesters are demanding a Republic, and end to corruption and political freedom.

And what are the Syrian protesters demanding?  Oh yes, an end to corruption and political freedom.  Syria doesn't have oil though and it isn't of use as a major naval base.  The Syrian state propaganda machine says that "acts of sabotage" were occurring at these demonstrations and that "infiltrators" were trying to "provoke chaos through acts of violence which resulted in damage to private and public property".

Those damned "infiltrators".  If it wasn't for them, the people would be happy going on with their lives. The "infiltrators" seem to be in every country and also on every job site throughout the world where they get workers all riled up who would normally be quite happy.

The fact that there were lots of chants at this demonstration accusing the ruling family of Bashar al Assad of corruption has nothing to do with the crackdown we are supposed to believe.  Assad inherited his position as the country's leader from his father in 2000.

According to activists from Free Syria, the security forces used live ammunition and helicopters on the crowd and that as many as four were killed and hundreds injured.   The Genie that sprung out of the bottle in the Arab world will not go back in.
