Obama defends Libya invasion. McCain on the US "We're the greatest force for good in the world"

Invading yet another third world country, US president Barack Obama claims in his speech tonight that,
"To brush aside America's responsibility as a leader and more profoundly our responsibilities to our fellow human beings under such circumstances would have been a betrayal of who we are.
"Some nations may be able to turn a blind eye to atrocities in other countries. The United States of America is different,"

Does Obama think we're stupid?  As I write, McCain is contradicting Obama saying that the removal of Gaddafi should be the aim of the US and that the US "leads", that the US "remains the leader of the world and that means were the greatest force for good."  and that when it needs to it has to act unlaterally. He wants American boots on the ground, and the feet in those boots will be those of young workers and the poor, those that US capitalism has no meaningful employment for.

Both of these representatives of US capitalism are liars. US capitalism's sanctions against Iraq and its former stooge, Sadaam Husseins Iraq cost over half a million lives. The US invasion has slaughtered over one million Iraqi's since then.  So far in Libya the US has fired 199 Tomahawk missiles compared to 7 by the British----this is not a coalition, it is another attempt by US capitalism to gain a foothold in a third world oil producing country and it is also to gain a foothold in Libya through which it can influence the outcome of these revolutions, placing forces that it can trust in power and that will suppress the workers' movement and the most revolutionary forces in their struggle for independence and self determination.  All workers must condemn the US war machine and its intervention in these struggles.

Obama makes the case that this is a humanitarian response to save the people of Benghazi, a "city the size of Charlotte"  But he also explains the real reason, that  it is not in the US's "national interest" to not intervene.  "If we tried to overthrow Gaddafi by force, our coalition would splinter," he said, but what do they do when pro-Gadaffi forces fight back as they will inevitable do?  What happens when the opposing forces enter Tripoli?

The situation has become so clear.  US capitalism didn't abandon its murderous friend Mubarak until the revolutionary Egyptian masses gave it no alternative. It has not intervened but armed to the teeth the equally murderous regime in Yemen.  It hasn't stopped the monarchists in Bahrain from shooting protesters.

Sometimes we have to stand against the stream.  The US and its European allies will do no good in Libya.  The US and its strong ally Britain produce over 50% of the world's arms between them. They overthrew a democratically elected secular government in Iran in 1953 and replaced it with a murderous dictator, the Shah.  The US arms and finances the Zionist regime that brutally oppresses the Palestinian masses.  The entering on to the global stage of the Arab masses has frightened US and western imperialism.  They want to suppress it; render it harmless, and if they had to they would use Gadaffi to do it.

I have little time but wanted to comment on the speech.  No support for intervention.  Build an independent and international movement of the working  class.  Build a world federation of democratic
socialist states.
