Beware of US imperialism.

It is only a few days ago that we saw on our TV screens the regime in Bahrain gunning down its own people on the streets. In today's Wall Street Journal it is reported that the US government has stepped up its support for this murderous regime. The US military is lobbying hard to make sure the US government supports the Bahrain murderers. The main reason is that Bahrain is the base for the US navy's fifth fleet and a bulwark against the influence of Iran in the area. We on this blog are totally opposed to any intervention of imperialism, of the US variety or any other variety, in the revolutions in the Middle East and North Africa. This development in Bahrain shows we are correct on this. Any intervention by imperialism will only be to further the interests of the international corporations and interests which loot the wealth of the region and repress the rights of the people of the region so that they can continue to loot the wealth of the region.

We have also told the joke on this blog about the devil going to Washington and gathering all the representatives together and making a proposal. The proposal was simple. The devil would see that they were all elected at every election as long as they sold their souls to him. The devil seems to always be a him. Anyway this was the offer he made. There was a long silence from all the representatives as they absorbed this offer. They were confused. Eventually one of them raised a hand and asked: "What is the catch?" Well this is the way it is. These representatives do not even consider they have a soul to sell. They have already sold it. The New York times today described the lobbying, that is bribing that has been going on in Washington over the years on behalf of the vicious murderous regimes of the Middle east and north Africa. A few examples.

Washington Media Group had a $420,000"image building", yes this is what it was called, contract with the Tunisian regime. The New York Times also reports that regimes in the Middle east were accustomed to pay "monthly retainers" up to $50,000 a week to individuals to bribe and make deals for them. One law firm, White and Case offered Qaddafi a special 15% discount rate in 2008 in light of the "significant relationship' they hoped to develop with this murderous freak. Saudi Arabia spent $1.5 million bribing in 2009, the United Arab Emirates, spent $5.3 million the same year second only to the Cayman Islands who bribed like there was no tomorrow to keep their tax free status so the rich from the US could hide away their wealth and pay no taxes on it and attack workers living standards in the public sector at home saying there was no money, saying that the deficits had to be paid by the workers.

We on this blog believe that all lobbying, that is bribing should be made illegal. The people involved in it are criminals. They are involved in preventing the wishes of the democratic majority from being carried out. Any sane society would lock them up and throw away the key.
