The US is up in arms about North Korea’s nuclear activity. A US nuclear physicist returned from a visit to the county and reports the existence of a modern nuclear plant, far larger and more advanced than expected. The scientist, Siegfried Hecker, of Stanford University was given access to the facility and authored the report.
"These facilities appear to be designed primarily for civilian nuclear power, not to boost North Korea's military capability” Hecker said, but this doesn’t calm Washington’s nerves which likes the idea of the US being the only nuclear power. The US proxy in the Middle East, Israel, is armed to the teeth and known to have hundreds of nuclear weapons but simply refuses to acknowledge it one way or the other. The US staunchly supports Israel’s right to have this nuclear arsenal and not allow any inspection of it, but sanctions Iran for its nuclear program despite that country repeatedly stating that it is not for weapons production. We have to try to see the world and the US's role in it through the eyes of workers who live in other places, particularly in those countries that have been the victims of colonialism and occupations by the industrial nations.
Mike Mullen, the chairman of the US joint chiefs of staff, claims this is more of North Korea’s “belligerent behavior” adding that, "From my perspective, it's North Korea continuing on a path which is destabilizing for the region. It confirms or validates the concern we've had for years about their enriching uranium, which they've denied routinely. They are a country that routinely we are unable to believe that they would do what they say."
You have to think about this in perspective. The US, a country that has invaded two countries that never threatened it, and with its proxy in the Middle East, Israel, has destabilized the entire region, is accusing North Korea of belligerency and destabilization. We also have to remember that George Bush included North Korea in his “axis of evil” along with Iraq. It didn’t invade North Korea, so maybe those regimes not willing to buckle to US dominance of their economic and political life might consider nuclear arms as a deterrent against a US invasion.
The western media complains about North Korea’s repeated violation of UN resolutions yet Israel also ignores UN resolutions, it’s occupation of Palestinian land and its destruction of Palestinian property is considered by most nations of the world to be illegal. Nuclear powerhouse Israel also repeatedly violates UN resolutions with US blessing.
North Korea is undoubtedly an oppressive regime. Whether it is as oppressive as Saudi Arabia, one of the US’s staunchest friends that are about to receive $60 billion worth of military hardware from the Pentagon, is debatable. Like Saudi Arabia, even more so, it is a closed dictatorship.
The point is that we hear only one side of the story as undemocratic regimes from N. Korea to the US itself, where workers have no or very limited say in the political and economic life of the country, make or break deals with each other for influence. North Korea, as oppressive a state as it is, has not and cannot cause amount of damage that a global giant like the US has and will.
It’s hard to claim the moral ground when you have your hand in the cookie jar.

North Korea "destabilizing" east Asia with its nuclear industry, says US. It would be a perfect world if only the US and Israel had nuclear weapons

We really have to come to terms with the fact that our government is a bully. We support a nation like Isreal and not Koria. We have not any sense of justice when we do that. We are only supporting corruption on a world scale.
