Last month farmers in India lynched a cop and burned 12 million dollars worth of construction equipment to protest seizure of their land to build a highway to the Taj Mahal. Such is the situation in India that Rahul Gandhi who is in line for prime minister’s job in the next election supported the workers and not the police, the Wall Street Journal reports.
Meanwhile, 100 million Indian workers joined a 24-hour general strike Tuesday protesting privatization, price increases and anti-Union reforms. The strike was strongly supportedin numerous states where the Communist Party is prominent and according to reports I have read, many bank employees were involved in the strike. Unlike the US, workers in the finance industry are often Unionized in other countries.
The U.S media is probably the most censored, or unfree which is an oft used term in the US to describe so many other countries, media of all the industrial democracies, probably India too.
As workers strike in South Africa, France and India by the millions, what dominates the mass consumption media here in the U.S?
A story about a nutcase preacher with a congregation of 50 whose aim it is to burn the Koran in a public book burning. But he’s still praying to help him figure out if he should go through with it.
