The American prisons are full. And there are plenty of them. This land of the free has 25% of the world's prisoners. But the country has only 5% of the worlds population. This would be incredible if we did not keep in mind that there is a lot of money for the private capitalists in the prison industrial complex. But I want to talk about another aspect of this today.
A recent report in Illinois describes the experiences of women giving birth to babies while prisoners in that state. In spite of laws saying they have to be unshackled during their labor, and in spite of requests from their doctors, many many women remain shackled and handcuffed. One woman described how when giving birth she remained shackled, a male guard sat at the foot of her bed watching a football game on TV and shouting and cheering when his team made a play.
On every front US capitalism is rotten. It does not work. It has to go. For a Democratic Socialist Society.

we have alot of prisoners!.are we a violent society by nature?.we are obsessed with guns and violence must be the answer.it is really good for me to be able to read a blog that promotes better ideas.this is what our country needs,not more guns
