left: There cannot be two states that look like this
The war on terrorism is a good deal for the defense industry, lots and lots of profits. For the rest of us, the millions of Iraqis dead under the US's puppet Hussein, the bombed weddings in Afghanistan and Pakistan or those five thousand or so US workers that have died in the present Iraq and Afghan wars, it is a disaster; not to mention the cuts in domestic spending here at home that occur due to war expenditure. It is impossible to wage a war on a tactic, and terrorism is a tactic. But no matter, the US has the most censored mass media in the so-called free world and lots of mouthpieces particularly in the pulpits of good Christian America; they create enemies everywhere in order to obscure the fact that our real enemies are at home and they call themselves Americans.
The roots of what US capitalism calls terrorism lie in US foreign policy. To any person on the planet with a mind capable of objective critical thinking, the bias is obvious. After the Israeli's murdered activists trying to bring humanitarian relief to the residents of blockaded Gaza, itself a crime against humanity, US president Barak Obama called Israel's president to tell him how concerned he was about the loss of life and "expressed the importance of learning all the facts and circumstances around this mornings tragic events as soon as possible." P.J Crowley, a U.S State Department spokesperson went further, "We ...expect the Israeli government will conduct a full and credible investigation." he said. This despite the fact that the president of Turkey claimed that the ships were inspected before leaving that country and were clearly carrying humanitarian supplies and that it accused the Israelis of "An act of barbarism".
The rest of the world laughs at this. The Israeli government has no credibility and neither do its US masters. Hell, the US government has no credibility with Americans which is why we told to see terrorists everywhere who hate us because we are "free" How ridiculous is that? The Israeli' government will investigate itself? Surely then, it is only fair the Taliban should investigate itself; perhaps Al Qaeda should investigate itself whatever Al Qaeda is. After all, this is the same Israeli government that had its diplomats expelled from Australia and Britain after those governments (staunch Israeli supporters) had enough information to accuse Israel of forging passports used in the murder of a Palestinian official in Dubai. This is the same Israeli government that refuses to allow its nuclear arsenal (it denies it has any) to be inspected and failed in its attempt to prevent a United Nations conference from taking place and, according to the Wall Street Journal "singling it out for scrutiny as part of a pledge to work for a Middle East nuclear free zone." It is the same Israeli government that condemned the Goldstone report on the invasion of Gaza that criticized both Israel and Hamas for alleged war crimes. It is the same Israeli government that continues to occupy Palestinian land illegally and builds settlements on this land to house people from other countries, many of them right wing religious nuts whose claim to the land is based on the ridiculous idea that god gave it to them.
Obama wants these thugs to investigate themselves. It is this bias that strengthens terrorism and gives support to the Islamic fundamentalists. Obama met with 37 Jewish Democrats in Congress and boasted about his commitment to this violent racist regime, "..he told them that he had spent more time one on one with Mr. Netanyahu (Israel's PM) than any other world leader and that ties were solid." (WSJ 6-1-10
Now why would the president of the US spend so much time with the leader of a tiny little country like Israel, and hand over so much of US worker's tax money to a regime like this? It has nothing to do with democracy obviously as the US government supports the Saudi's and has supported other dictators including Sadaam Hussein, Mobutu, the old Shah of Iran and others. It's not as if the US bourgeois, overwhelmingly Protestant, gives a damn about Jews either, in fact, they hate them and Jewish capitalists are their competitors.
The friendship is based on one thing, oil and keeping this resource out of the hands of the Arab masses. The Israeli regime is the US's most dependable ally in the region. US imperialism cannot rely on Arab regimes in the area. Most of them are totally corrupt and anti-democratic and propped up by US taxpayer money as our living standards are savaged to pay for it; they are unstable friends of US capitalists. The Saudi's even have religious police to ensure you are worshiping the right god. Jordan is probably 60% Palestinian. Many of these regimes would fall under pressure from the Arab working class were they not armed to the teeth by the US and, to a lesser extent, western taxpayers. It is the revolutionary potential of the Arab working class that helps cement the US Israel bond. The first British governor of Jerusalem referred to the idea of Jewish state after the collapse of the old Ottoman Empire as "our loyal little Ulster in the Middle east." Ulster being the Protestant dominated 6 counties of Northern Ireland held by British Imperialism after partition, a minority surrounded by a majority, armed to the teeth by their benefactors and the last line of defense for a crumbling empire.
US capitalism's uncritical support for the Zionist regime is the root cause of instability in the region and Islamic terrorism worldwide and British and US capitalism has been the greatest obstacle to the building of secular democratic regimes in the area. The Zionists for their part want to destroy every last trace of a Palestinian Arab culture in the region. Below: demolishing Palestinian homes with US equioment
We must demand that the US cease its arming of the Zionist regime, that there be a two state solution in the region drawn within the 67 borders and with Jerusalem as the Palestinian capital; the Israelis already have one. We must demand an end to the occupation. We support the unconditional right of return for all Palestinians driven from their homeland. We support Israel's right to exist and for equal rights for all Arab Israeli's. For Jewish or Christian Zionists whose defense of their occupation of Palestinian lands and homes is based on the argument that god gave it to them, we support their right of return to their country of origin also. The Jewish Zionist from LA to LA and the Christian Zionist from Texas to Texas.
In the last analysis, there is no real solution to the crisis in the Middle East on a capitalist basis. Only through a federation of democratic socialist states in the region as part of a world socialist federation of states can a future for Arabs and Israeli's, Christians and Muslims, Jews and secular people be secured.
