life is tough at times

I go for a walk in the morning to try and exercise. These last days I have been observing a duck and her five ducklings swimming in the lake. But now the number of ducklings is down to only one. It is the seagulls, the b......., they eat them.

This morning I walked close to the mother duck and the remaining duckling. The mother duck gave a very feeble quack, looked over her shoulder at me and tried in vain to flap her wings. She appeared traumatized.  The wee duckling tried to hide under its mother's tail. It was terrified.

Life is very harsh. I could not get the image of the mother duck and her wee one out of my head all day. Any seagull I saw I felt like trying to get a grip of it. For all species ours included violence and killings and terror are a part of our world. If we can end capitalism we can dramatically reduce these for our species. What about the rest? I have never had the will power to become a vegetarian but I think I should be. In a world democratic socialist society would we not strive for this? It would also be much easier on the world's resources.
