health care comparison

health care comparison

The liars and slanderers who are attacking any talk of change in health care in the US are in the main stooges for the profit addicted health industrial complex the Republican Party and mouth pieces of the extreme born again christian right. Obama and the Democrats because they also are wedded to the idea that profit should be the basis of the health care system cannot answer these thugs. This is in spite of there being so much information out there with which to defeat these people.

The US is 37th in the world in the quality of its health care. Yes we hear it all the time how the US is the best country in the world. It is not in health care. maybe it is in death delivering rockets and weapons but not in health care. It is number one in the percentage of its population in prison but not in health care.

Some of these liars and slanderers who have been attending the town hall meetings have begun to attack the British national health care system. The NHS. Even the extreme right wing partyin Britain, the party of Thatcher, the Tories, has had to jump to counter their slanders and to defend the NHS. This is because the NHS is so much seen by the British people as a major gain and achievement in their lives.

One British surgeon defended the NHS in this way: "I don't come to work in the morning thinking if the patients are going to be able to afford the treatment I'm about to give them." If he was in the US he would be coming to work thinking exactly this and turning down many procedures and patients if the profit addicted insurance companies would not give him permission.  The private profit mad health industrial complex determines who gets what treatments in the US. The private profit addicted health industrial complex rations health care for the US population.

Let us look at the facts in relation to the US and Britain. Britain has better life expectancy, 78 years in Britain compared to 77 in the US. Yet Britain spends dramatically less per person than the US. ($2,500 a year per person and $6,000 per person respectively.) This is a staggering difference for a worse result. The profit motive should be taken out of the health care system.

All aspects of the health care system should be taken out of private profit motivated hands by taking it into public ownership under democratic workers and patients management and control. This includes the entire pharmaceutical industry.

This is the way forward for the health care industry. The private ownership profit addicted method does not work.
