Exploiting prison Labor and not hiring |
Another by-product of the Labor hierarchy's collaboration with the capitalist class is the increasing use of prison Labor. I was out on a hike today, a short one, and took the picture above of the guys doing what is actually the work of public sector workers. First off; these jobs should be done by unionized public sector workers. The East Bay Regional Parks system, where this picture was shot, is Union, represented by AFSCME. In the recent US elections, AFSCME spent $91 million in an effort to get the likes of anti-Union Jerry Brown and other Democrats elected in to office. Meanwhile, the top dogs of this potentially powerful Union do nothing about what we see on above, nothing for them as prisoners and nothing for the workers whose jobs they are taking. The bosses are attacking firefighters and all public sector workers and here are prisoners doing their jobs. The prisoners are doubly exploited as prisoners. In the first place, if most workers had decent jobs, they wouldn't need up in jail.

It's a funny thing, but I had a hot debate with a room full of people tonight and I had nobody to back me. They simply did not see the point of unions. They just think that the competition and free market forces will get rid of all the cheats and other people that don't do their jobs.
They fail to see the big picture in my view. There are fewer and fewer good jobs. If we are lucky enough to put our kids through college,we won't have even a pot to piss in. The costs of college are going through the roof and our wages are declining in relation to everything else. Our benefits are been hammered and the inflationary side of healthcare is going through the roof. In our union alone our pension contributions are only earning one third of what they used to. I do however earn a good working wage because I am in a union. I just don't thrust the open market place in the least. It just creates terrible poverty and destroys hope for too many people.
