Egypt's military keeps the emergency laws in place to prevent further protests against Egyptian capitalism US imperialist interests in the region

The US armed and trained Egyptian military have kept the emergency laws in place that were so hated by the Egyptian people.  The heads of the military were in Washington with their US advisers when the uprisings began and had to cut short their session.  We should also remember that the new constitution is being drawn up by a group selected by the military. This will be a constitution that protects the interests of capital including keeping the Gaza border crossing closed no doubt. No matter the propaganda that the army and the people are one.   The people and the rank and file of the army are natural allies.  The law is still in place in order to prevent the further protests and the more revolutionary elements and workers organizations from threatening the interests of Egyptian and US capital.

A Constituent Assembly with delegates elected from the Unions, community groups, youth and student organizations, political organizations and workplace and neighborhood committees that arose during the uprising should draw up a new constitution as well as committees formed representing the rank and file of the military, no officers.
