It Took The Chinese Revolution of 1949 to End This

October is the 71st anniversary of the Chinese Revolution that overthrew capitalism and landlordism and proclaimed the People's Republic of China on October 1st 1949. In the report the narrator points out that the Chinese government ended the centuries old practice in the 1950's but neglects to mention it took a revolutionary overthrow of the predominantly feudal system that did this along with the victory over colonial and imperialist powers seeking to exploit China, it's people and its resources.

The Chinese Communist Party was a peasant party predominantly and took power through guerilla warfare. But my point here in sharing this video is to stress the history of the oppression of women and this is just a small example of it. In some parts of the world today, particularly places like Saudi Arabia, and other Islamic countries headed by wealthy families, women are still a long way from equal rights. And here in the US, the assault on rights already won are under assault driven to a great extent by the increased power and influence of right wing Christian fanatics in politics.
