Bill Nye Exposes Tucker Carlson's Climate Denial. His World View.
Richard Mellor
This guy Tucker Carlson is such a nasty character. You can see here in his defense of the market and capitalism, which is what he is doing with little success, how he is appealing to the most backward and myopic thinking sections of society. He can’t come out directly and point to how society is organized, how we produce, distribute and exchange our social needs so his strategy is to discredit the scientist. But our mode of production----capitalism-----is the cause of what is a looming environmental catastrophe, not “man” or “us” or humans as both men say here. We live in class society, there is a ruling class and the oppressed, those who are left out of the decisions about society and how it is organized. Although Nye does refer to Carlson's “world view” as the reason for his denial of science and objective reality.
It reminds me of the quote I refer to often from Christopher Hill's history of the English Revolution and why the rising capitalist class up until Cromwell, were limited to reforms only. They faced what Hill refers to as the "Stop in the Mind". They believed in the Divine Right of Kings, that the King was King by God's will or that he was "God's Vicar. Their own consciousness or "World View" was the obstacle.
Being unable to challenge one's world view is why politicians lie. The truth turns their world upside down. Our personal struggle is overcoming that "Stop in the Mind". That's how society changes, and revolutions occur, recognizing objective reality and adjusting our activity to it.
