US Gulf Arab stooges try to ease Saleh out. Irish County Council links with Gaza City

A couple of interesting snippets. The Yemeni oppositionists have rejected a proposal by the Arab Gulf states aimed at halting the crisis in that country. Rallies and protests against the initiative are being held today around the country. The regimes heading the Arab Gulf states are the known stooges of US imperialism trying to help Washington’s dictator in Yemen slither form the scene unscathed. The proposal offers no time frame for Saleh’s exit and the oppositions rejected it. He has been in office 32 years and American workers should keep in mind that the Saleh regime agreed to take responsibility for missile assassinations of “terrorists” in Yemen that were actually carried out by the US. The role of the US in the region is not popular with the vast majority of the people, particularly those whose rights are denied them by US supported tyrants.

Ireland
We have written on this blog previously about the similarities between British Imperialism’s motives for supporting a Jewish state in the Middle East to the partition of Ireland and the six counties in the North that are still occupied by the British. The first British governor of Jerusalem referred to such a creation as “Our loyal little Ulster in the Middle East.”; the creation of a foothold or outpost of imperialism, a reliable ally, surrounded by enemies, that would provide a foothold in the area from which to defend western imperialism’s interests in the area including holding back the struggle of the Arab masses.

While Sean has pointed out the mistakes that the IRA has made in the past supporting anti-worker regimes, the Moyle County Council in Antrim Northern Ireland recently passed a resolution that will make Gaza City its sister city or twin. “Moyle Council took a decision tonight that was truly historic. They have committed themselves to become the first Council in Ireland to Twin with Gaza City.”, said  Padraig McShane, one of the Councilors that supported the decision.

The council split along Catholic Protestant lines with the Ulster Unionists and the DUP voting against. What the vote means:

* Training and visit exchange in a wide range of aspects related to municipal services and administration, particularly urban planning and public space management, GIS development, and solid waste management and recycling, local economy development.
* Urban planning - Cooperation for the urban development of Gaza City Beach; Cooperation between Gaza city and Moyle District Council for the concept of the proposed ‘Moyle Peace Park’ in Gaza city.
* Environment - Pilot project: Recycling of organic waste for agricultural use in Gaz; Study for the development of the Gaza seaport.
* Science, cultural and tourism - Cultural exchanges, exhibitions, handicrafts preservation, artistic and cultural groups performances, and joint summer camps; Enhance cooperation between schools in Gaza city and Moyle District: Promote culture, dialogue and friendship ties between the people of both cities.
